Design Chief – Central Maine
We have an opening for a night-shift Design Chief on our copydesk in our office in Augusta, Maine, to design compelling pages, strong headlines, and engaging stories that are effective, clear and accurate. The Design Chief also helps establish the design and typography rules for print editorial publications and is the primary designer for Page One.
The ideal candidate has exceptional design abilities and can demonstrate the ability to write and edit text that enhances the presentation of our journalism. We need a strong critical thinker who will maintain high standards throughout the editing and design process and who can master our content management and layout systems. The Design Chief must be both an initiator and a collaborator in our fast-paced, deadline-driven newsroom.
Requirements include strong organizational skills, initiative, responsiveness and unrelenting attention to detail; and a college degree or significant professional experience, preferably at a daily news organization.
